First day at School

First day at School
I wonder
if my drawing
will be as good as theirs.
I wonder
if they’ll like me
or just be full of stares.
Wonder : surprise, doubt.
Drawing : a picture or diagram made with a pencil, pen, or crayon rather than paint.
Stares : the fixed look with eyes wide open.
Gran : grandmother.
Puppy : a baby dog.
I wonder
if my teacher
will look like Mom or Gran.
I wonder
if my puppy
will wonder where I am.
This poem is written by Aileen Fisher, an American writer. In this poem, the poet describes a child who is going to school. The child is sharing his feelings. It is his first day at school and he is thinking about many things on the way to school. He also thinks about his classmates, teachers and his puppy.
